ANPR / LPR Camera
Number plate recognition camera for car parks and gates, reading plates day and night to open barriers and log entry.
A barrier opened by hand costs a guard and slows every vehicle. A plate recognition camera reads the number as the car approaches, so the barrier opens for a permitted vehicle and the entry is logged with a timestamp. Recognition needs a short exposure and infrared illumination to work at night and against headlights, which is why a general-purpose camera does not do the job. The recognition rate depends as much on the mounting angle and the plate size on screen as on the software.
How it is specified
- Resolution, and the plate width in pixels at the reading distance
- Lens and mounting height, and the angle the plate is seen at
- Infrared illumination, and behaviour with headlights and wet plates
- Plate formats recognised, and the size of the local list
- Interface: Wiegand, relay, network, or a direct link to the barrier controller
- Protection rating and operating temperature at the mounting point
- Whether the whitelist keeps working locally when the network drops
Where it is used
- Car park entrances and exits
- Toll and weigh stations
- Gated communities and staff car parks
- Logistics yards and loading docks
